The UP Visayas campus in Miagao has a long history of planting trees. This is a tradition that started way back in the early 80’s when what was then the predominantly rice field areas of the campus were planted with thousands of trees that now populates alongside its road networks. When the campus formally opened its doors in 1989, trees were everywhere. No wonder the campus has been declared as a bird sanctuary by the LGU of Miagao.
University Research Associate Sashah Dioso of the Center for West Visayan Studies (CWVS) of the College of Arts and Sciences (CAS) was tapped to conduct a lecture on the topic, “Incorporating Local History and Culture in Tour Guiding” for tour guides who are members of Gigantes Eco-Guides Association (GEGA). The lecture was held during a two-day training organized by Iloilo Tour Guides Guild, Inc. and the Department of Tourism Region 6 held at Arjan Beach Resort, Barangay Granada, Higantes Norte Island, Carles, Iloilo on September 29-30, 2018.
The University of the Philippines Visayas in coordination with the National Commission for Culture and the Arts and the Commission on Higher Education is holding Pagtib-ong 2: The UP Visayas International Conference on Intangible Cultural Heritage at Grand Xing Imperial Hotel, Iloilo City, Philippines on October 25-26, 2018.
The Commission on Audit has recognized the UP Visayas Accounting Office as one of the 2018 Outstanding Accounting Offices of the country.
