As the flagship college of the UPV, CFOS provides quality fisheries education and produces graduates who are among the best in the discipline. Its graduates dominate consistently the top 10 passers in the Philippine Regulatory Commission (PRC) Fisheries Technologists Licensure Examinations with the College having the highest passing rates among the different fisheries schools in the country.
The Commission on Higher Education has acknowledged the CFOS as a Center of Excellence in Fisheries Education effective January 1, 2016 until December 31, 2018 and as the National University/College of Agriculture and Fisheries (NUCAF) for 2016 by the National Agriculture and Fisheries Education System (NAFES).
It has four institutes namely: the Institute of Aquaculture, Institute of Marine Fisheries and Oceanology, Institute of Fish Processing Technology, and Institute of Fisheries Policy and Development Studies.

The CFOS, joining the internationalization effort of the University, has enriched the Master of Science in Fisheries Program through the International Linkage with Kagoshima University (Japan), Kasetsart University (Thailand), Nha Trang University (Vietnam), Sam Ratulangi University (Indonesia), and Universiti Malaysia Terengganu (Malaysia). This postgraduate program in Tropical Fisheries enables students to take at least 6 credit units from any of the participating university so that they can earn additional certification.
