UPAA Aklan Chapter officers take oath
The UP Alumni Association Aklan Chapter gathered on October 3, 2015 at Kalibo, Aklan to induct its new set of officers.
Atty. Selwyn Ibarreta is the new president. The theme for 2015 is“Maki-ambit,” which means to participate, or cooperate. In his speech, Ibarreta emphasized the importance of participating in university activities. He said that one of the vital roles of the regional alumni chapters is to support the university especially the poor but deserving students of Aklan enrolled in UP and the other alumni chapters.
Ibarreta is currently the Provincial Administrator of Aklan and also an incoming UPAA Iloilo Chapter board member.
The new members of the board of the UPAA Aklan Chapter for 2015-2017 include Dr. Griselda C. Quintana as Vice President, Mr. Leenard M. Cristobal as Secretary, Ms. Jessica T. Ignacio as Treasurer, Atty. Joan T. Ibutnande as Asst. Sec. Treas., Ms. Felma C. Trabado as Auditor, Ms. Emelinda R. Dela Cruz as PRO, Dr. Emmett L. Custodio, Engr. Hipolito C. Ibarreta, Atty. Saykeme M. Martelino, Dr. Delfin M. Quintana, Ms. Pearl Marie N. Icamina, and Dr. Jindra Linda L. Demeterio, the immediate past president.
Prof. Nestor Yunque, Vice Chancellor for Administration of UP Visayas inducted the new set of officers. Atty. Allen Quimpo, founding president of UPAA Aklan Chapter, Dr. Ray Alindong, incoming president of UPAA Iloilo Chapter, Atty. Gaudioso Geduspan, outgoing president of UPAA Iloilo, and other members of UPAA Aklan and Iloilo chapters, as well as alumni from UP Diliman, Manila, Los Baños, Tacloban, Iloilo and Open University were also present to witness the event. The UPV Office of Alumni Relations Director, Prof. Amy Tanoy was represented by Ms. Almera Facto, Administrative Officer of OAR.
The UPAA Aklan Chapter is an independent organization and maintains close coordination with the UPV Office of Alumni Relations for projects, fund drives and other activities involving the university such as the annual UP Alumni and Faculty Homecoming and other alumni-related activities.
