IPO trains new batch of University tour guide volunteers
The scenic main campus of UP Visayas in Miagao has always attracted visitors not only in Region VI but from Luzon to Mindanao and from other countries. In order for them to have an organized visit and acquire accurate information on UPV, the University Tour Guide program was created in 2000. As a volunteer service program of the university that deals with its external public, the UTG also responds to the call of UP to be a public service university.
On October 28, 2015, the Information and Publications Office (IPO) of UP Visayas conducted the training course at the Miagao campus, for a new batch of student volunteer guides for the UTG program. The activity started a PowerPoint presentation on UPV that included its vision and mission statements, core values, history, campuses, colleges, degree programs, student population, faculty profile, organizational set-up and officials of the administration. The students were also oriented on the protocols of the tour, itinerary of the tour, and how to conduct the tour. In addition, they were also provided a basic script on what to say while conducting the tour along with a print-out of facts and figures on UPV.
The trainees were made to apply what they have learned right away when they went on a simulated tour of the campus using the UPV shuttle bus. Several security guards, whose assistance are always needed in trafficking guest vehicles inside the campus, were also invited.
Dr. Liah Catedrilla, Director of the IPO, welcomed the participants and thanked them for their willingness to serve as volunteer guides.
