UPV ‘Info officers’ join PAGASA-DOST Media Seminar–Workshop
Ms. Anna Razel L. Ramirez of the UP Visayas Information and Publications Office and Ms. Lenilyn B. Gallos of the College of Fisheries and Ocean Sciences Public Service Program Office participated in the Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) and the Department of Science and Technology (DOST) Media Seminar Workshop on January 28-29, 2016 at the Casa Real, Capitol Compound, Iloilo City. The aim of the seminar-workshop is to update media on vital weather information that will aid in disaster risk reduction.
Eight topics were tackled during the seminar-workshop, which include: 1) Basic Meteorology/ Hydromel Hazard; 2) PAGASA’S Weather Forecasting and Warning System; 3) Tropical Cyclone Tracking Exercise; 4) Climatological and Agro meteorological Services; 5) Global Warming/Climate Variability and Change; 6) Flood Forecasting and Warning System/ Flood Events and its Mitigation; 7) Astronomical and Time Services; and 8) the Role of Media in Disaster Risk Reduction.
The event was conducted in partnership with USAID Water Security for resilient Economic Growth and Stability (BE Secure) Project and El Niño Task Force of the Iloilo Province. (By: ARL)
