UPV partners with Miagao LGU for RUN 300
To conduct an organized, safe, and injury free fun run not only for Miagao participants but for all that will join; and to showcase that Miagao and the UP Visayas Miagao campus are ideal venues for such an event– these were what UP Visayas and the Miagao LGU had in mind when they partnered together to organize RUN 300.
RUN 300 was held on February 7, 2016 as one of the events in line with the 300th founding anniversary of the Municipality of Miagao wherein the main campus of UP Visayas is located.
Starting off at the municipal grounds for the gun start, runners in all forms, shapes and sizes raced for the 5K and 10K categories whose race route was mainly inside the scenic UPV Miagao campus. The runners caught a glimpse of the Panay Gulf from UPV’s beachfront property, raced up the zigzagging flight of stairs that has 133 steps and ran through the undulating uphill and downhill road of the campus under the canopy of mostly acacia trees. The Igbaras and Antique mountain ranges loomed in the background.
The winners for the 5K category for male and female are as follows (male): Mark Galapin – 1st place; Alden Toronila – 2nd place; and Roger Molinos – 3rd place; (female): Thea Anne Bagaford – 1st place; Liezel Siray – 2nd place; and Jean Cabaliera – 3rd place.
For the 10K category, the winners are the following (male): Romulo Balinas – 1st place; Dexter Galos – 2nd place; and Mark Gagnao – 3rd place; (female): Jessa Mie Sustituedo – 1st place; Lorena Demontaño – 2nd place; and Trisha Yanoc – 3rd place. They received medals and cash prizes.
Among others, RUN 300 had runners coming mostly from Miagao, UPV, the 82nd IB of the Philippine Army, the Iloilo Running Buddies and from Iloilo City, Guimaras and Negros.
Miagao Mayor Macario Napulan welcomed the runners at the municipal grounds and joined the 5K event. UPV Vice-Chancellor for Administration, Prof. Nestor Yunque, thanked the runners who supported the event as well as the members of the organizing committees of the Miagao LGU and UPV.
