“Inquirer Town Hall” held in UPV
The Philippine Daily Inquirer (PDI) conducted “Inquirer Town Hall” with the theme “Iloilo Boom: Model or Mirage?” on September 17, 2016 at the Cinematheque, UP Visayas Iloilo City campus. The panel discussion which was moderated by John Nery of the PDI was held in preparation for the next presidential debate that will take place on March 20, 2016 at the UP Cebu College in Cebu City.
Four panel discussants tackled different issues that revolve around the theme. Architech Manuel Tingson focused on Iloilo heritage conservation and Iloilo River development, and UPV Professor Rhodella Ibabao talked about urbanization and its effect to a developing city. Mr. Joemarie Agriam of the Iloilo Chamber of Commerce talked about the rate of dollar remittances in Western Visayas vis-à-vis the booming realty business in Iloilo City, while Mr. Gilbert Altura of NEDA discussed Iloilo City’s competitiveness as compared to other cities in terms of good governance, infrastructure and support.
The event was organized by the PDI Iloilo in cooperation with UP Alumni Association- Iloilo Chapter, Office of Alumni Relations. The event was supported by the UPV sa Halalan 2016 Committee.
