GDP Director Receives Women Empowered Award
Dr. Mary Barby P. Badayos-Jover, Director of UP Visayas’ Gender and Development Program (UPV-GDP) and Coordinator of Ugsad, Western Visayas’ Regional Gender Resource Center, was chosen as one of the recipients of the “Women Empowered Award,” which was organized by the Council of Women’s Clubs in Iloilo City.
The search for awardees and the actual awarding ceremony held on March 29, 2016 at St. Therese-MTC Colleges, Molo, Iloilo City was the first for the 2-year old Club and one which they hope to continue annually. The Woman Empowered Award “recognizes the invaluable contribution of the awardees in upholding and improving the dignity of women by extending their dedication, love and services through their capacity as volunteers who sacrificed their time and resources, thus inspiring their fellow women in their special unique way.”
Aside from being GDP Director and Ugsad Coordinator, Badayos-Jover is also the Secretary of the Board of Trustees of the National Network of Women in Fisheries, Inc. (WINFISH) and a certified member of the Philippine Commission on Women’s National Gender and Development Resource Pool (PCW’s NGRP). She is considered a staunch gender equality and women’s rights advocate in the region. Her fellow Women Empowered awardees are Jail Officer Imee Lopera, Ms. Mary Lou Boriado, Capt. Luz Lim Escarilla, Dr. Cristina Garcia Pomaar, PO3 Alona Layson and Ret. Supt. Cecilia Detablan. Ms. Carolyn M. Taruc received the award on behalf of Dr. Mary Barby P. Badayos-Jover.
