UPV Miagao student leaders conduct mock elections
The UP Fisheries Guild in collaboration with UPV University Student Council and College of Fisheries and Ocean Sciences (CFOS), conducted a Presidential and Vice Presidential Mock Elections at the Miagao campus of UPV. It was launched on April 6, 2016 with a Voters’ Education lecture at the CFOS audiovisual hall and ended on April 22, 2016.
The mock election was conducted to know the pulse of UPV community including the faculty, staff, and the students of the three degree granting units in the Miagao campus in relation to the upcoming national election on May 9, 2016.
The ballots and ballot boxes were placed at the Pidlaoan Hall lobby and the students passing by were encouraged to cast their votes. In addition votes were also cast from the staff of the College of Arts and Sciences (CAS) as well as from the residents of the UPV’s dormitories in the Miagao campus.
There were 450 respondents who participated in the mock election that included mostly students, faculty, and staff from CFOS, CAS and the School of Technology. Even some of the tricycle drivers that ply inside the campus also cast their votes.
All the year levels were also represented as well as the male and female voters although the number of respondents from each year level and the male and female voters were not proportionate to the total student population in the Miagao campus.
Santiago was the winner at 62.22%, followed by Duterte at 24.44%, Poe at 4.88%, Roxas at 4.00% and Binay at 2.44%. Two percent abstained from voting. In the Vice Presidential candidates, Robredo was the preferred choice at 43.78% followed by Marcos at 17.11%, Escudero at 13.33%, Cayetano at 11.77%, Trillanes at 2.44% and Honasan at 1.33%. Those who abstained were 2.89 %.
The Presidential and Vice Presidential bets of the campus were ranked based on a vote percentage from the total number of votes cast by the respondents. (With sources from the UP Fisheries Guild)
