Dept Chem - CAS holds 2nd API Workshop
The Department of Chemistry, College of Arts and Sciences, UP Visayas held the second Academic Program Improvement workshop on packaging the “Proposed Updated BS in Chemistry Program” at the Teaching and Learning Resource Center, UPV Miagao Campus on August 4-5, 2016.
Attended by the faculty and staff of the department, the two-day workshop aims at packaging the proposed revision of the BS Chemistry program for submission to the college curriculum committee. This was a follow-up activity of the API workshop, which reviewed the existing BS in Chemistry program held on 30 May – 03 June 2016 at the Assemblage Point Resort and Convention Hub at San Joaquin, Iloilo.
Prof. Steve P. Janagap, Chair of the Department of Chemistry, gave the welcome remarks and presented the BS Chemistry program vision, mission, goals and outcomes as well as the ideal BS Chemistry graduate. This was followed by a review of the program structure and program requirements of the BS Chemistry program by Prof. Jay Martizano in terms of the requirements of the Commission on Higher Education (CHED) and Professional Regulatory Commission (PRC). Mr. Arnold Gaje and Mr. Christian Catalan presented the existing BS Chemistry program and the summary of the proposed changes of the new BS in Chemistry program, respectively.
After the lunch break, the participants were grouped according to the five Chemistry clusters: Organic, Inorganic, Physical, Analytical and Biochemistry to discuss the topic listings of the core and elective courses.
Day two of the workshop started with each cluster presenting the topic outlines of their respective core and elective courses, followed by an open forum. The workshop concluded with the discussion of the proposed retention policy of the BS in Chemistry program. (By: Enrique N. Legaspi III)
