CFOS profs conduct lecture series in fisheries for ASU faculty and students
Faculty members of the College of Fisheries and Ocean Sciences (CFOS), UP Visayas served as resource persons in a “Lecture Series in Fisheries” conducted by the Aklan State University, New Washington, Aklan this month.
Dr. Nathaniel Añasco of the Institute of Marine Fisheries and Oceanology (IMFO), Dr. Harold Monteclaro of the Institute of Fisheries Policy and Development Studies (IFPDS), and Ms. Karen Grace Andrino-Felarca of the Institute of Aquaculture (IA) shared their knowledge and expertise to the faculty, staff, and students of the College of Fisheries and Marine Sciences of the said university.
Añasco, whose expertise is on fisheries biology, marine chemistry, and chemical oceanography, discussed aquatic resources and ecology on August 6-7, 2016. Monteclaro lectured on capture fisheries on August 13~14, 2016.
Meanwhile, Felarca talked about the fundamentals of aquaculture, cultured aquatic organisms, fish diseases, and other updates in aquaculture on August 20-21, 2016. Her lecture include topics on the foundations of aquaculture, site selection and preparation, water quality, nutrition and feeding, aquaculture engineering, aquaculture species (broodstock management, nursery and grow-out culture), genetic concepts, and fish health management/fish diseases.
