Sabalo appointed as new UPVTC Dean
The search process for the next dean of UP Visayas Tacloban College (UPVTC) has come to a close. Prof. Virgildo E. Sabalo, Ph.D., has been appointed as its new Dean by the UP Board of Regents during its 1321st meeting on October 27, 2016. He will serve his term effective November 1, 2016 until October 31, 2019.
In the plans and programs that he presented during the search process, Sabalo pointed out that, among others, UPVTC has produced competitive graduates, conducted and published researches in SCOPUS indexed journals and served several institutions and communities in the two islands of Leyte and Samar. In addition, many of its graduates occupy important positions in both public and private offices and likewise continue to excel in licensure examinations particularly in the CPA licensure examinations.
To continue asserting UPVTC’s leadership roles in education, research, and public service in the Region, Sabalo stressed the need for a the review and revision of existing curricular offerings as a priority during his term not only taking into consideration the implementation of the K-12 program, but also the mandate of UP as a Research University.
Along with this would be the development of new degree programs especially graduate programs (such as MS Environmental Science, MS Biology, MA Psychology) for institutionalization in response to the mandate of UP as a Graduate University and for the manpower needs of the region.
He also plans to focus on the following goals: 1) improve the faculty profile, 2) institutionalize extension/public service program, 3) improve research and publication outputs, 4) enhance support for student welfare, and 5) improve operational efficiency.
Sabalo earned his Doctor in Management degree at the University of San Jose-Recoletos. Meanwhile, his Master in Management and BS Agricultural Business Management were earned from UPVTC and the Visayas State College of Agriculture, respectively. He also served as Dean of UPVTC in 2006 to 2009.
