Anti-stress program empowers teens

Stress has been one of the factors affecting the behaviors of teenagers. In response to this, the UPV Office of Alumni Relations organized the Personality Enhancement Program dubbed PEP4: PEP TALK! which has become an ongoing summer activity. This year, the 4-day workshop was held last April 17-20, 2017 at the Alumni Terrace and Conference Room.

UP alumni experts, composed of professors who are also psychometricians, psychologists, artists, and urban planners, talked to teenage participants. They discussed physical and psychological changes that occur in the bodies of teenagers. They also facilitated fun activities that revolve around stressors, stress levels, and possible responses to help the kids cope with such stresses.

The participants had a great time understanding stress as it relates to their everyday life and their environment. They also enjoyed the sessions where they had a chance to compose poems and hugot lines (quotes on unrequited love or attention), paint their thoughts on canvass, and hand-paint their own t-shirts. The musical jam session held during their last day gave them a stress-free fun time singing and jamming with the UPV Rhapsody Band. During the culminating activity, the kids displayed their output at the UPV Cinematheque for their parents to see. In their graduation speeches, the participants extended their heartfelt thanks to their parents for letting them join the program, which they totally enjoyed and learned so much from. They expressed enthusiasm to be part of the next PEP workshop.  GC Castro
