COP/BIDANI joins the 2017 National Nutrition Month Celebration
In celebration of the National Nutrition Month this July, 2017, COP/BIDANI joins the nation by holding a Nutrition Forum on July 3, 2017 at the Auditorium, UP Visayas, Iloilo City.
This year’s theme, “Healthy diet, gawing habit: FOR LIFE!” is about awareness on the importance of healthy diet to prevent malnutrition and reduce obesity and non-communicable diseases as well as to distinguish healthy diet from unhealthy diet. The forum also aimed to update barangay officials, Barangay Nutrition Scholars, Barangay Health Workers and other stakeholders on the nutrition situation of the region with emphasis on stunting and wasting.
Invited resource persons were, Calvin de los Reyes, Ph.D., Visiting Professor from Khovd University in Japan and Consultant, JICA (KANSI) and Ms. Nona B. Tad-y, Regional Nutrition Program Coordinator, National Nutrition Council, Region VI.
The talk focused on the importance of the First 1,000 Days of the babies upon pregnancy and after the mother delivered her newborn. According to Dr. Calvin, maternal and child health through regular pre-natal check up and healthy diet are important during this period to ensure brain development and growth of the baby. Early childhood development and child care was given emphasis. Highlight of the forum, was on the Nutrition theme for 2017, on giving importance to healthy diet, promotion of proper nutrition by preparing nutritious and low-cost foods, consumption of a good amount of fruits and vegetables, and regular exercise.
With these, let us promote and sustain a healthy diet, FOR LIFE!
