A huge number of university alumni from different years gathered from August 25-27, 2017 to celebrate their jubilee in UP VIsayas. The 2017 homecoming saw the participation of jubilarians and alumni, ranging from the recently graduated ones to graduates of 1952, in more than ten homecoming-related events.
The series of events kicked-off on August 25, 2017 with the annual homecoming mass organized by Scintilla Juris Fraternity and Stella Juris Sorority. This was followed by the launch of the book “The Social Helix,” and the election of members of the UP Alumni Association (Iloilo Chapter) board.
The most awaited ‘VArrio Fiesta’ brunch for the alumni sponsored by Validus Amicitia received a big turnout as alumni fellowship was renewed while food is enjoyed. The Silak and Silab’s Golden Lunch for retired faculty and staff was an entertaining experience with a group of Ilonggo artists singing composo during lunch. Roasted beef was shared to everyone by the UP Hamili-Hamilia group during lunch.
The 80’s Afternoon Disco organized by UPHSI 1987 was an enjoyable trip back to memory lane as guests came to dance to the sound of the popular music of the 80’s. The UPIC Night followed as arranged by the UPIC Diamond Jubilarians.
At 10:00 in the evening, the Run UP!7 Night Run took off from UPV Miagao en route to Iloilo City to realize Silak and Silab’s long time dream of doing the 42K UP 2 UP full marathon.
On August 26 early morning, continuing from the finish of the 42K runners, the 3K and 5K Fun Run followed at the Diversion Road in Iloilo City. In the afternoon, Bingo Sessions by SoTech, I Am UP High launch, Bluechips’ Back to Base Reunion, and UPHS’76 Spirit of ’67 Barn Dance Concert were also held.
This year’s homecoming was capped by the Homecoming Dinner & Awards Night. Celebrating jubilarians were recognized while notable alumni were given awards. Chancellor Rommel A. Espinosa, who is going to end his term as Chancellor of UP Visayas gave his Chancellor’s Report to the Alumni. The night ended with an after party featuring local musical artists with the jubilarians dancing to the beat of the 80’s and even the 70’s.
The UP Alumni & Faculty Homecoming is jointly organized by the UPV Office of Alumni Relations and the UP Alumni Association (Iloilo Chapter) in cooperation with various alumni batches and organizations.
