CFOS welcomes NKMU officials
The College of Fisheries and Ocean Sciences (CFOS) welcomed the officials of the National Kaohsiung Marine University (NKMU), Taiwan on September 5, 2017 at the UPV Miagao campus.
CFOS Dean Crispino A. Saclauso led in receiving the ten deegates of NKMU headed by its Acting President, Professor Syue-Sinn Leu. The visitors were accompanied by the staff of Manila Economic and Cultural Office spearheaded by its director, Mr. Cesar Drilon.
The visit was aimed to familiarize the visitors with the College, seek opportunities for faculty and student exchanges and academic collaborations, and explore possibilities of strengthening the relationship between Taiwan and the Philippines on fisheries and maritime related matters.
A short program was conducted to introduce the two universities at the FC Conference Room at the Umali Hall of CFOS. This was followed by a brief meeting to discuss matters on possible research and academic collaborations. Leu encouraged interested and potential students from CFOS to study in NKMU. Located in Taiwan’s maritime capital, Kaohsiung, the National Kaohsiung Marine University is the only higher education institution in Taiwan focusing in marine education.
The meeting was attended by the Institute directors, selected faculty members, REPS, and chairpersons of the undergraduate and graduate student organizations of CFOS. A representative of the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources Region VI was also present.
The visitors also visited the facilities of the College.
