CAS junior faculty wins APRU Best Paper
Mr. Clyde Gacayan, a junior faculty of the Division of Social Sciences, College of Arts and Sciences of UP Visayas was given the Best Paper Award by the Association of Pacific Rim during the recently concluded 13th APRU Multi Hazards Symposium on August 28-29, 2017 at Peking University, Beijing China.
The said symposium is an annual gathering of disaster scholars from member universities around the Pacific Ocean.
Gacayan’s paper entitled ‘Disaster Vulnerabilities and Cultural Resilience: Transforming Schools for Living Traditions as Disaster Hubs’ was based from his NCIP-FPIC ethnographic fieldwork in the Panay Bukidnon communities affected by Typhoon Haiyan in 2013. The paper has been published as part of the APRU Multi Hazards Symposium Conference Proceedings on Innovative Association of Academia and Governance for Disaster Risk Reduction by Peking University.
Additionally, Mr. Gacayan also served as chair to the panel on disaster technology application on the same conference. Gacayan is currently on a study leave pursuing MA in Global Politics at the Ateneo de Manila University as a K+12 CHED Scholar. The next APRU Multi Hazards Conference will be hosted by Australian National University in Canberra, Australia in 2018. (Source: Division of Social Sciences)
