The UPV Gender and Development Program in partnership with Ugsad Regional Gender Resource Center held a Public Forum in celebration of the International Day of the Girl Child on October 9, 2017 at the Auditorium, UPV Visayas Iloilo City campus. The activity was participated in by 494 participants coming from various UPV networks; and Ugsad member-institutions including the academe, government agencies, local government units, and non-governmental organizations.

The public forum aimed to raise the awareness of the general public and generate support and commitment of stakeholders to eliminate any and all forms of gender-based violence and discrimination against adolescent girls in Philippine communities.

This year’s international theme was “The Power of Adolescent Girl: Vision for 2030”. Dr. Bernadette Jardiolin Madrid, Director of the Philippine General Hospital’s Child Protection Unit served as the resource speaker during the said event. Her talk focused on the prevention of sexual abuse of teens and what schools can do.

The international community annually celebrates the International Day of the Girl Child every October 11. This year was the first time for UPV GDP and Ugsad to join the said celebration.

Students from the UPV GDP Balay Balay Child Minding Center in Iloilo City and Miagao campuses performed during the activity.
