UPV sets 36th Commencement Exercises in June; Romulo commencement speaker
Along with the rest of the constituent universities of the University of the Philippines that implemented the shift in the academic calendar (August to May instead of June to March), UP Visayas has set its 36th Commencement Exercises on Friday, 26 June 2015, 9:00 AM at the main campus in Miagao.
Not only will UPV have its first graduation rites in June, it will also mark another milestone this year – its first summa cum laude graduate in the person of Raoul Danniel A. Manuel, a BS Applied Mathematics major who scored a GWA of 1.099.
Hon. Roman T. Romulo, Representative of the Lone District of Pasig City, Chairperson of the Committee on Higher and Technical Education, and UP alumnus (BS Economics, 1990 and Bachelor of Laws, 1994) will be the commencement speaker.
The commencement week will kick-off with the Parangal, a program to honor graduating students, their parents, the alumni, and benefactors which will feature a Zarzuela to be performed by the UPV Alumni Community Theater and the UPV Chorale. It will be on Wednesday, 24 June, 6:00 PM at the UPV Auditorium, Iloilo City campus.
UP Alumnus, Dr. Adolfo B. Bellosillo, (Doctor of Medicine) will be the guest speaker for the Papuri 2015, UPV’s recognition program for graduating honorific scholars and special achievement awardees that will also be held at the Auditorium on June 25 at 8:30 AM. Bellosillo is also a UPV benefactor.
The Baccalaureate Exercises will follow on the same day at the same venue at 3:00 PM with Fr. Ruben B. Orbeta Jr., S.J. as celebrant.
In addition, the UPV Tacloban College will have its Commencement Exercises on Monday, 29 June 2015, 4:00 PM at the campus grounds with Hon. Pia S. Cayetano as commencement speaker.
