UPFG conducts annual adopt-a-school project
The UP Fisheries Guild (UPFG), a duly recognized socio-academic service and political organization of the College of Fisheries and Ocean Sciences (CFOS), UP Visayas (UPV) conducted its annual adopt-a-school project on September 12, 2018.
This year, UPFG reached out to the pupils of Mambatad Elementary School located in Brgy. Mambatad, Miagao, Iloilo. A total of 100 pupils from Grade one to Grade three benefited from the one-day activity.
Officers and members of the student organization gave the grade schoolers simplified lectures on marine conservation and marine diversity, conducted storytelling on proper waste disposal and limiting the use of plastics, watched kiddie film showing with lessons about marine conservation and biodiversity, played games, handed out school supplies and free food for the kids.
Adopt-a-school project is one of the most-awaited activities of the organization in line with its anniversary celebration on September.
Some of the schools that UPFG adopted in the past were the Atty. Blas Elementary School in Guimbal and Tigbauan Central Elementary School in Tigbauan, Iloilo, among others.
UPFG also organized the following activities in line with its celebration this year: rose giving, book covering at the CFOS Library, exhibit at CFOS lobby, conservation talk, coastal clean-up along the coast of the Ocean Weather Laboratory, and bloodletting activity at the CFOS AV Hall.
