A new campus trail opens for nature lovers and trekkers alike at UP Visayas Miagao, Iloilo.
The many pockets of forests sitting on the undulating hills and plains inside the 1,200 hectare-land area of the campus is an invitation to go trekking. The idea to build a nature trail within the campus was planned for years. Finally, on Dec 14, 2018, UP Visayas launched its ‘Nature Trail.’
Chancellor Ricardo Babaran underscored the importance of appreciating and preserving the environment in his short message during the launch. He said that a system should be put in place to ensure that trekkers will not leave trash along the trail.
The trail fittingly started in front of the Gate 2 of the Site Development Reforestation Program of the university. It leads to a forested walk along gentle uphill and downhill climbs with a stop at Hill 70, so called by the UPV Mountaineers who assisted the Office of the Vice-Chancellor and Development (OVCPD) in conceptualizing the trail. It leads on the dirt road leading to the Regional Research Center (still under construction) when one makes a right turn or to the college union building on the left turn.
Vice-Chancellor Martin Genodepa led some faculty and staff in the launching of the trail.
